God called Abraham and promised to bless all the nations through him. Yet Abraham’s life was marked by waiting, imperfect obedience, and circumstances that seemed to make God’s promises impossible. From the covenant ceremony of Genesis 15 to God’s provision for Isaac, Abraham’s story reveals that the certainty of God’s promises rests on God himself. His faithfulness points us forward to Jesus Christ and gives us hope beyond what we can see in this life.

God will not overlook sin, and God will not abandon his creation. He preserves the world for his purposes, even as the continuing problem of the human heart points us toward Christ.

As the Story continues, death appears again and again. Sacrifice also begins to appear—a life given in the place of another. Yet the repetition of sacrifice shows that these sacrifices could never finally remove sin. They create longing for a better and final provision from God.

A covenant is a binding relationship established by solemn promises and commitments. A contract tells you what you agreed to. A covenant binds you to a person, and covenant is not God's backup plan. The shape of it is already in the Garden, at the very beginning. Covenant is how God binds himself to people he loves.
